Your Info and Opinions Needed for Survey on Alternative Education Programs

The Education Law Center-PA (ELC) is seeking volunteers to complete a brief survey about students placed in alternative education programs (AEPs) in Pennsylvania. This survey asks for systems level information on current trends in the responders’ experience like whether students go to alternative programs with IEPs. These programs sometimes are called "1901-C programs," referring to the law that allows them to operate.

ELC plans to submit a report on these programs to the Pennsylvania Department of Education in the hopes of reforming the law and the Basic Education Circular about alternative education programs.

This survey is being sent to lawyers, juvenile probation officers, and other people – such as advocates – who may have experience working with youth who are sent to alternative disciplinary programs. Many families and family advocates have extensive experience with these placements and can provide valuable information and insight. (Please note: this survey is not asking about experiences with RTFs or partial hospitalization programs.)

Your information will help ELC prepare a report on these schools. Please be assured, however, that they will not identify you unless you give your permission to do so.
