This month we are offering a number of features related to transition age youth, ages 14 to 25. Help for youth experiencing mental health problems exists but it can often be difficult to access and coordinate with all the areas that youth interact – school, college, housing, employment. MHAPA, our affiliates and colleagues, in partnership with the PA office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS), are working together to assure every child, youth and young adult has access to the services and supports they need to lead healthy and full lives.
Pennsylvania is also working to develop a full array of services for children, youth, and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and has recently created a Bureau of Autism Services, and other new resources.
If you or someone you know is currently in crisis, please call 911. If the person is not in immediate danger of hurting themselves or another, you can call your County CASSP and children’s mental health coordinators for help finding services. Most children and youth to age 21 are eligible for no cost public mental health services. Parental income is not considered. After age 21, services are available at no or low cost.
Below we list links to articles related to transition age youth and their mental health that we published recently in this newsletter.
