When Children Are Sent Away
The January 2010 edition of PA Children’s Newsletter looks at the practice of placing children with behavior problems in residential facilities. Pennsylvania has developed many community options for children and adolescents whose behaviors put them, their families, and their communities at risk. Still, local agencies, the courts, and families place many children in psychiatric residential treatment and juvenile justice facilities in state and out of state. This edition will cover several issues related to residential placement of children and adolescents, including where to call with concerns. Readers may also contact the Newsletter’s editor, Wendy Luckenbill, directly at wluckenbill@mhapa.org or 866-578-3659.
